The Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians and Four Winds® Casinos are pleased to announce the first of two players selected to be this year’s sponsor exemptions for the Four Winds Invitational, which takes place Friday, June 8 through Sunday, June 10 at Blackthorn Golf Club in South Bend. The Four Winds Invitational is part of the Symetra® Tour – Road to the LPGA®. Cailey Rooker from St. Joseph, Michigan has earned the first spot to play in this year’s Tournament. Sponsor exemptions are used to give amateurs and up-and-coming players the opportunity to play in tournaments and compete against professionals. To qualify for consideration, players must have a 4 handicap or better.
Rooker is a junior at St. Joseph High School. In addition to being a top athlete, Cailey is a top student at St. Joseph High School, in the top 10% of her class with a 4.2 grade point average. She is a member of the National Honor Society, Student Senate and Interact Club. In the community, Rooker is active with The First Tee of Benton Harbor where she mentors area youth, and is a musician with the Lake Michigan Youth Orchestra. She is a 3-year member of the St. Joe varsity golf team, and among her many achievements, was named 1st Team All-State and is school record holder. In 2017 she was a USGA Junior Qualifier and played in the 2017 Junior PGA Championship in St. Albans, Missouri.
Rooker will attend tomorrow’s Media Day and will be available for interviews following the brief press conference.
“Cailey is an outstanding example of what we look for in a sponsor exemption. She’s truly a rising star—an athlete that will hold her own with this field of professional golfers,” said Tim Firestone, general manager of Blackthorn Golf Club. “We will announce our second player exemption in the next week or two and once we do, I know there will be even more excitement for the event. The spectators have a lot to look forward to.”
